UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST COMMUNITY CENTER

A Letter from Director, Claire Szoke
Greetings!
Welcome to Channing Murray Foundation! We provide an array of educational, artistic, religious and cultural programs designed to be radically inclusive, justice-centered, and spiritually alive. Located in the heart of the University of Illinois campus, at the corner of Mathews and Oregon, Channing Murray is a campus-community center guided by Unitarian-Universalist values, celebrating and honoring a diversity of social identities and experiences through innovative programs, activism, and cultural learning.
Each week, we are home to a variety of programs, classes, workshops, and shows. From West African dance to poetry-writing, theatrical performances to our social justice film series. Downstairs our Red Herring offers vegan-vegetarian cuisine and music for all ages in an informal, drug and alcohol-free environment. From jazz nights to punk shows, our Red Herring Coffeehouse continues to serve as a hub for local musicians and artists.
Channing Murray offers many opportunities to connect with members of our local community in celebration and collaboration. Join us for our annual Tagore Festival celebrating the many talents of the famous Indian poet and philosopher Rabindranath Tagore or for our mid-week Young Adult groups that afford students and non-students ages 18-35 an opportunity for deep listening and dialogue.
And check out our participatory, culturally diverse services (Sundays at 1 p.m.) to experience a religious service like no other in Champaign-Urbana! Our services are led by members of the community and capture a multitude of meditative and spiritual practices, designed to offer religious connection and secular meditation. This fall, our service series, Expressions of Peace, will include the Universal Dances of Peace, a Native American offering ceremony and a Performing Peace Poetry Slam. So stop by and see what we have to offer!
We look forward to connecting with you.
Warmly,
Claire Szoke, Executive Director
